SARAMAGO ATRAVÉS DA LENTE

Photo contest open until 18th September

If in literature words are transformed into images, what images would have generated the words written by the Portuguese Nobel, all over the world?

Choose one book by José Saramago, the one that mos impressed you and make your own interpretation through the lens of your camera. Present a set of works composed of three to six original photographs, indicating the work of José Saramago which inspired you and which you intend to portray.

Photo contest is organized by the Center for Portuguese Language of Instituto Camões in Novi Sad, in collaboration with the Embassy of Portugal in Belgrade and Belgrade Photo Month Festival, as part of the Centenary of José Saramago that is celebrated this year.

Conditions for Entry

The open call is open to anyone of any nationality, professional or amateur, born before 1st January 2004. However, an entry may be rejected should the sponsoring organization or its agent find that the entry does not conform to the exhibition rules and conditions. There are no restrictions as to subject matter except as outlined in the rules and definitions of specific sections.

Entries must originate as photographs (image-captures of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or digitally. By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrant declares the work as their own (pseudonyms are not permitted). The entrant thus permits the sponsors to reproduce all or part of the submitted material free of charge for publication and/or display in media related to the exhibition. This also may include low-resolution posting of the material on a website.

No member of the organization or their relatives can participate.

The exhibition assumes no liability for any misuse of copyright. Images may be altered, either electronically or otherwise, by the maker.

Theme

As part of the celebration of the centenary of José Saramago, it is our intention to propose the creation of an international photographic competition, which aims to establish a link between the author’s narratives, that have been translated into more than forty languages, and the imagination of his readers. Thus, in this creative process, which unites literature and photographic art, we propose that participants capture their interpretations of Saramago’s works with a lens. If in literature words are transformed into images, which images will have generated the words written by the Portuguese Nobel laureate around the world?

Choose a book by Saramago that has impressed you the most for any reason and do your own interpretation through the lenses of your camera.

In short, it is our goal to bring to the world the images that best represent the work of Saramago.

Participating photographers, amateurs and professionals, must present a set of works consisting of three to six original photographs that have never won any photo contest, indicating the work of José Saramago by which they were inspired and which they intend to portray.
